Shrove Tuesday is almost here, and with that comes........ PANCAKES! Lots and lots of Pancakes! Please join the parish nurses in our annual Pancake supper on February 21st at 4:00 P.M. To partake in lots of good food, fun and fellowship. Please contact Marijo if your are interested in helping to make sausage patties the day before or with any help or donation of any kind.

Also, remember that if you or any one that you know who is in a nursing degree program that would like to apply some helpful scholarship money please contact any of the Parish nurse for an application or information.

Thank you to everyone for keeping our sister Pat and her family in your prayers, thoughts and good wishes during her time of trial and healing. We continue to prayer for a full and healthy recovery for her and send Pat all of our love!

AED (Automated External Defibrillator) has been placed it's box by the downstairs elevator.

First, a great big thank you to all who contributed to the purchase of this item. Second, another great big thanks to Buck Miles for getting the project started and taking the lead on getting training started. Buck held 2 separate sessions (May 11 & May 18) and a total of 30 people attended. The session involved a brief DVD on how to use an AED and a brief demonstration of the AED purchased by HUMC. This was followed by a question and answer period.

A few things you will need to know about our AED and it's storage box:

1. It is ready for use with adult defibrillator pads.

2. Inside the box where the AED is stored is a package of defibrillator pads for use on children.

3. The small black bag attached to the AED has a razor, scissors, gloves and a barrier device for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

4. If you open, the box, a VERY LOUD alarm will go off. It is intended to alert others in the building of a medical emergency needing an AED. It does not relay to any emergency medical system. It is an internal alarm only. To de-activte the alarm, just close the door.

Go to the "Course Catalogue" box and click on "all courses".

Go to the pull down menu and select "Workplace Training"

the course you want is "Heartsaver CPR and AED Online Part 1". You would need to purchase the course for $19.95. This will provide you with the classroom part of the program but not hands on. It will give you a good understanding of how to perform CPR and use an AED.

If you are already trained in CPR, please bring in your card for us to make a copy for our files.

N Parish Nurses -- The Parish Nurses are interested in your holistic healthcare needs - physical, mental, and spiritual. Please, come by any Sunday 10-10:30am when there is a "parish nurse on duty" for a BP check, a word of encouragement, or prayer. We have a card ministry as well, please, let us know who in the congregation needs a card. We are always ready to have new nurses join us. If you are a nurse and feel God's calling to do more in your life in a health ministry, come joiAlso, believe it or not, we are starting to plan our Pancake supper. The date is March 8. So mark your calendars. I know we are already planning for 2011 ! YIKES!

Registration is REQUIRED, call Keri Liperini at the Pines Senior Center 410 535 4606. The dates and times will be Mondays March 7th - April 11th. Meet at HUMC in the back classrooms 11:00 - 1:30.

NEW! HEALTH MINISTRY PURCHASES AED!

+ 1 life saved = PRICELESS. Any amount that you can give would help and thank you in advance for your generosity. Merry Christmas! Thanks to an anonymous donation of $500 to the Parish Nurses and a like minded Buck Miles, we have purchased an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for our church. The AED will be located downstairs, very accessibly displayed, and there will be classes made available to key folks and groups on its use. Total cost $1996.50 - $1000 = $996.50

The meeting today was good and I believe that this all the following news to be posted:

We are still interested in creating a database of currently active CPR card carriers. Please bring in your card so that we can make a copy for our files. Marijo is in charge and this is part of our effort to initiate the AED at church.

May 1st will be "Healing Hands Sunday" to include blessing the Relay for Life team; celebrating those who have battled and lost, still battling, and survivors of cancer; healing by anointing and prayers; and celebration of healers in our midst. The Chesapeake Community Chorus at 5:00 followed by the Mini Luminaria service at 7:30. Such a busy day, don't miss such wonderful events at our church. Luminarias will be available for purchase in memory or honor of loved ones. P

Is there any interest in receiving funds from the Nursing Scholarship within the congregation? A wonderful opportunity for any one who has the calling of caretaking in their soul and heart. In addition, we are making an award to Ms. Annie Flomo in Ganta, Liberia via Sue Porter, RN. It is her last semester and she graduates. We are so very proud of her! Her grades were very good:

The month of April is Autism Awareness Month. There is information on screening tools and free educational materials available at cdc.gov/actearly. Additional information about autism and CDC’s activities is available at cdc.gov/autism.

These are some of the things that we are working on just within our church community. We are also offering our support to HUMC Relay for Life team "CrossWalk"

Please give thoughtful consideration in joining our team and/or supporting it in any way possible. Of course it is for a wonderful cause that has touch all of our lives.

The Relay team is compiling recipes for a cookbook to sell as part of their fundraising efforts. The theme of the cook book is Game day recipes. Please contact Sheila
